Vocaloid!!

Welcome to the Vocaloid rant page

Back to About Me

Vocaloid rant page

You're here because you pressed a button with 'vocaloid' on it. I was originally going to keep this contained to the "about me" page, but it kinda got a life on its own and grew too big to keep it there.

Vocaloid bangers

The following is a (very unordered) list of vocaloid songs I enjoy accompanied by some ADHD ramblings about them. Said ramblings are aimed at an audience that is at least slightly familiar with vocaloid, just so I can ramble more.
I am actually not very familiar with vocaloid please introduce me to it

(Btw before you get mad: I just refer to every piece of music that makes use of a voice synthesizer as "vocaloid". Some of these are probably UTAU or VSynth or something, and I do not give a shit. Having an umbrella term that doesn't sound as lame as "Vocal Synth" is very nice tbh, so I just call it vocaloid.)

Faq with adhd ramblings inside of them

(Don't read these if you're not interested, go listen to the songs.)
Why I'm using Youtube instead of SoundCloud here While I absolutely prefer SoundCloud for music, most Japanese vocaloid producers don't have a SoundCloud account, and I don't really like linking to reuploaded versions of songs. Moreover, most vocaloid songs have pretty cool videos that the creators worked really hard on, so it would be a shame to hide that part of the effort that was put into the songs.
Why are these songs so edgy Ok so for some reason songs about edgy things are usually the best songs. It's just how it is. Also, the more edgy a producer's songs are, the more deranged the fanbase becomes, which is a nice side effect (deranged fandoms are fun and interesting).
This is cringe Fuck off let me enjoy and ramble about my autistic obsession with Japanese robot music

The songs are currently shown as links. You can view them as embeds as well, but this requires a fast connection and will subject you to third-party cookies from SoundCloud and Youtube.

Time for some bangers that I really enjoy.

Inabakumori

Inabakumori is my favourite artist. Whenever I'm not feeling great or slightly stressed his music just calms me down. He's an incredible artist and I hope that one day he gets popular enough to host a concert because I would absolutely go to one. I love almost all of his songs, but here are a few that I particularly like.

Rainy Boots is my favourite song. I literally can't not smile when hearing it. The video is a treat as well:

Inabakumori: Rainy Boots

Loop spinner is incredible as well. I love how fast paced it is. After discovering it I vividly remember sitting in the waiting room of my driving school, holding my phone to my ear with this on. I literally could not get enough of this song.

Inabakumori: Loop Spinner

More Inabakumori Pascal beats is incredible, I really love the melody:

Inabakumori: Pascal Beats

I remember being very hyped for the new Inabakumori song to drop while on holiday. After finally hearing it I was not disappointed, holy fuck this song is great:

Inabakumori: Relay Outer

I believe Lost Umbrella is Inabakumori's most popular song, which is why I'm including it here. I'm honestly not the biggest fan of this song, but I do still really like it.
Inabakumori: Lost Umbrella

Kian

Kian is an incredibly underrated producer and I will keep promoting the shit out of him until he's famous. Of course, I am not really a big influence in this regard, but oh well.
Here's a few of his best works (in my opinion):

Dim-Witted Polka is somewhere in my top 5 songs of all time. I love this song so much oh my fucking god. Just listen to it. Go on, listen to it. I'm not asking, you're going to listen to this fucking masterpiece right fucking now I swear to god if you don't click that fucking link right fucking now I'm going to fucking lose it

Kian: DIM-WITTED POLKA

Dead of the Party is one of his newer creations. Kian really likes halloween for some reason so every year around October the guy suddenly just drops like 20 bangers which is pretty cool. I really like this one, you should listen to it :)

Kian: DEAD OF THE PARTY
Another Kian halloween song Attack of the Killer Candy is also just a great song:

Kian: ATTACK OF THE KILLER CANDY

Eargasm song

Kian: LIKE THE BILE FROM MY MOUTH

Ok sure the lyrics of I'm a Cat are kinda silly but I don't care because it fucking goes:

Kian: MAYBE I'M A CAT

More Kian Uncanny is great, give it a listen. (If you got a nickel for every time you encounter a song named "Uncanny" on this page, you would have one nickel. At the end of the page that amount might have changed, however.):

Kian: UNCANNY

I Walked With the Devil is a great song as well:

Kian: I WALKED WITH THE DEVIL

Satapan-P

I'm a big fan of headache inducing ADHD music, which these two fit right into.
Yababaina's music video is a piece of art btw. It is a must-watch fever dream imo. Amazing storyline, truly a gripping plot 🥹.

さたぱんP: YABABAINA

Yababaina is really great (this video is a beautuful fever dream as well) but personally, I prefer this one:

さたぱんP: BAGOOOON!!!!!

Iyowa

Then there's Iyowa's Heat Abnormal, which does a really cool thing with the beats in the chorus. It repeats the same lyric & notes, which have a length of 3 eighth notes, 8 times. This happens at multiple points but the first one is at 0:26. The lyric "shoukyo shite mo" repeats 8 times. I'm pretty sure this is called "polymetre". I love this song because of this. It's probably my second favourite song after Rainy Boots.
Please do explain You can hear and see it here. The part I'm talking about starts at the cymbal crash and is coloured purple in the image. The 3 eighth notes are made up of an eighth note at the start, followed by 2 sixteenth notes, followed by an eighth note, as shown in the image. Bunch of notes
(I tried my best to recreate the notes but I'm not entirely sure if I got it 100% correct.)

Iyowa: Heat Abnormal

Azari

Then there's Azari, whose entire discography slaps (except for Sweet Lies, which isn't really my thing):

Azari: Whisper Whisper Whisper

Azari: Be My Guest

Azari: Casino

Shadow Shadow, of which I actually slightly prefer x0o0x_'s cover:

Azari and x0o0x_: Shadow shadow

A few random songs

These don't have any order or organisation to them to begin with btw but here are a few songs the producers of which I don't know that well.

Shinjinrui was played at the Expo in Amsterdam (which yes I absolutely attended), and it's really great. I really like the piano usage in it (also Rin is just peak (after Flower and Kaai Yuki and Teto of course)):

Marasy, Jin, Kemu, Yumao, Bibi, and Kusaka Kiyoshi: Shinjinrui

Jazzy/swingy song that everyone must hear (it's great):

Natsuyama Yotsugi: Messed Up!

Tanger's ◠ uses Miku so it fits this list. As far as I know it doesn't use any actual language (it certainly isn't Japanese), but it just sounds incredibly great and is one of my favourite songs go listen to it. (Edit: It's fucking Toki Pona oh my fucking god it's Toki Pona.)
Tanger: ◠

Hehe cannibalism

Vane, Ricedeity, and JamieP: Butcher Vanity

I am a big fan of Teto, I am a big fan of synthesiser solos, and I am also a big fan of fast-paced songs. This song has all three of those, which makes it very great:

吉田夜世: Override

Another fast paced song I really like:

jon-YAKITORY: Konton Boogie

I love the "beach vibe" this song has going on (literally no idea how to describe it differently). The repeating "zuki zuki zuki" bits also sound really funky, I really like it.

Teniwoha: Samsa

Another fast-paced jazzy/swingy song featuring Rin and Len, the iconic duo:

Miyamori Bungaku: Parry

Viva Happy (Viva Happy)

Mitchie M: Viva Happy
(Viva Happy)

Matoryoshka is a classic of course (it's also a banger).

Kenshi Yonezu/Hachi: Matoryoshka

So is (Aishite)³:

Kikuo: Aishite Aishite Aishite
Though I'm also just a pretty big Kikuo fan (I'm going to a concert of his with my sister in Amsterdam in February of 2025 (please contact me if you're also going I require friends)). So:

Kikuo

I think Kikuo is the most unique music producer I know. His songs are absolutely amazing and each and every one of them is a piece of art. Here's some I really like:

(Kara)³ no kara is one of the most incredible pieces of audio you can insert into your ear canals. It's a fucking rollercoaster of an experience. First few times I listened to it I didn't even realise its relatively long length. Some people get confused by / really don't like the "breakcore part" in the middle. I disagree with these people, it sounds fucking amazing, I love chaos, thank you Kikuo.

Kikuo: Kara kara kara no kara

Red Riding Hood's Wolf is a very underrated Kikuo song go listen to it. I love the "ladidida didida didida" part so much oh my god:

Kikuo: Red Riding Hood's Wolf

This one is a treat as well. Completely different from his other songs (though that holds for most of them honestly), yet still very much a Kikuo song. I really like it.

Kikuo: When I was absent from school

GHOST

Ghost, or Ghost and Pals, is a really great producer. He makes English vocaloid songs, and is really good at it in my opinion. Their songs have a lot of interesting background to them. He often uses very creative musical elements which I really like. The lyrics are often about relatively heavy subjects, so be aware of that. (This is true for a lot of the songs on this page, however these are in English instead of Japanese, making them more understandable to the average visitor of this website.) Here's a few highlights, though I like almost every song they've made:

Aura is a delight. I love how Ghost used Solaria's voice in this and I love the instrument usage even more.

Ghost and Pals: Aura

Honey I'm Home is a great song. I think the best way to describe what I think is great about it is the name of its genre (proposed by Ghost himself): "industrial catholic bugcore". (You can look it up, people have categorized multiple songs into this genre, it's pretty interesting actually.) But yeah I absolutely love this song, I love the chorus even more, and the line "A vivisection of me, done by God for all to see" goes hard as balls.

Ghost and Pals: Honey I'm Home

Perfect Nothing falls into the noise music / printer music category, which I'm a big fan of. Pretty sure this doesn't even use anything resembling a vocaloid but I'm still including it here. Big fan.

Ghost and Pals: Perfect Nothing

Appetite of a People Pleaser is incredible. It is an English song that makes use of Flower, who only has a Japanese voicebank, which is incredibly impressive; it uses a 12/16 time signature (I think. I decided on this signature myself, I literally don't know what else to name what is being used in this song. It's not 3/4, it's also not 6/8 and it certainly isn't 12/8. It might actually be 6/4 now that I think about it but I should really drop this subject now), which is so cool that I took the idea and made a song of my own with it; it switches time signatures to 4/4 and 5/4 in some parts of the song; the combination of Flowers voice and the weird obscure instruments Ghost uses sounds incredible; the lyrics are genius and hit relatively close to home for me; and it taught me the word "obsequious". Literally, just take a listen at 2:32. The "I know I'm subservient, but.." combined with the fucking unidentifiable instrument in the background playing notes at what sounds like completely arbitrary points in time, yet it fits perfectly. I really like this song if you couldn't tell.

Ghost and Pals: Appetite of a People Pleaser

Housewife Radio is just a banger. The video is a bit.. dark. The "themes of suicide" trigger warning at the start there is a real understatement. The song is great though, I especially like the part after 2:18 which is very headbangable (the whole song is amazing though). The subject of synesthesia is also very interesting to me, because I myself have a version of it (I will probably make a page about that some day). Communications was a beautiful disaster with a very passionate fanbase. It's kind of sad that it was never completed but honestly I completely understand the reasoning for it. I also don't really care that much, I'm more interested in Qualia Automata (still waiting on that fourth song 😔).

Ghost and Pals: Housewife Radio

Spacegoat is just a very fun song to scream at the top of my longs when driving a car.

Ghost and Pals: SCAPEG♾AT
Please have a look at this video while you're at it.
Yes, I've fallen deep enough into this fandom that I genuinely find this video funny.
More Ghost Uncanny is pretty great, give it a listen (you have 2 nickles now!):

Ghost and Pals: Uncanny

Those who carried on has a great melody, and I like the story behind it:

Ghost and Pals: Those who carried on

R.I.P

R.I.P, RIProducer, or Really Introverted Producer, is very great at making music. They're an english producer as well. I found them through a random soundcloud recommendation and I've been a pretty big fan since then. I really like their style of background music (though the voices are great too, of course). Here's a few of their works that I really like.

Miss Miseryguts is an amazing song. When it came out I was listening to this shit non-stop. Absolute banger. I love the printer-like sound at the start and I love the melody that comes right after even more. The chorus is amazing as well. I really like this song.

R.I.P: MISS MISERYGUTS

Now this, I think, is my favourite RIP song. (It's very close to Miss Miseryguts though.) I love the weird funky melody played on the piano; the lyrics are pretty cool (hehe he wants to kill people); the beat is fucking weird which I love; the pre-chorus (if that's what you call it) is in some kind of talk-like inflection which is really funky; and the chorus is really great as well. Big fan of this song.

R.I.P: CORROSION

Another one of their more recent songs. Big fan of this one as well. The Piano (et al.) coming in at 0:22 is fucking amazing, and the chorus is really nice as well. Also, though I usually don't pay that much attention to the lyrics, I am a fan of the fact that this song has a happy ending :).

R.I.P: Language of the Lost

This one is just a nice song:

R.I.P: It Should Have Been Me

Ferry

Ferry is pretty cool. I haven't listened to that much music of hers yet honestly, but most of it is pretty great. These two are my favourites:

Coordinate shift is incredibly cool. The weird, clock-like beat in combination with the really cool voice, lyrics, and melody, make this an absolute slapper. The line "a rabid orange scent paints the back of my throat" goes incredibly hard. I really don't know why but it just does, it's a really cool line. I also literally cannot state enough how much I like the funky mechanical beat at the beginning (and throughout the song).

Ferry: Coordinate Shift

First Ferry song I ever listened to, and honestly I think it's one of the first English vocaloid songs I really listened to. It's really great. It also has cats in it btw. It contains at least one (1) cat.

Ferry: The Faulty Feline Philosophy

Sasuke Haraguchi

Back to Japanese. This guy is just really cool. The shit he produces doesn't make any sense and yet it slaps like crazy.

Hito Mania is really great, I love how the sound effects are incorporated into the music, and how they actually seem to fit. I love the weird instruments used, I really like Teto's UTAU voicebank. It's just a great track.

Sasuke Haraguchi: Hito Mania

Yureko is also just a great track. I love the idea of a really funky beat continuously progressing and changing throughout a song. Big fan.

Sasuke Haraguchi: Yureko

First song I heard by Sasuke. I was instantly hooked when I heard it. Truly a piece of art.

Sasuke Haraguchi: Hontono

This one is more of an upbeat song. I also like how the video looks like a guy who found out about Blender yesterday and decided to just make a video with it. Go listen to it it's great.

Sasuke Haraguchi: Igaku
