Almost every year, I go hiking in the Alps with my dad (and potentially some other family members). We often go to a specific very nice camping. I think I've been there for like 7 years now (spread over 10 years). This camping has very nice bathroom facilities, especially near the reception. That specific bathroom has a very interesting tile pattern on the walls. This tile pattern is pictured below.

Do you see him?? Do you see the nice gentleman on the left side?? I will highlight him for you.

THERE HE IS!!! He is smiling because he knows I hate him. To make things less confusing, let's call the entire 8 by 8 matrix a "tile", and the little tiles it is made up of "tixels". Now, the interesting thing about this guy, let's call him Tony, is that he shows up on both tiles. What's even more interesting, is that the rest of the tixels on the tile match up with the other one, but only on the left half. I've highlighted it in the next picture in case you don't know what I mean.

As you might have noticed, the tixels can have 1 of 4 possible colours: black (very dark green), dark green, light green, and white. Every single tixel on the left side of those tiles matches up. That cannot be a coincidence. There are some very strange patterns present in this bathroom and I've always wanted to find out what the bigger picture is. How did the tiles end up like this? Why do they match up? What is the deal with this fucking tile?

So, after showering in this bathroom countless times, and being confronted with these tiles on every single occasion, I finally snapped. As any sane person would, I started taking pictures of every single tile pattern in the bathroom. I now have a folder of almost all of the tile patterns. My plan is to use Computer Vision software to identify the tiles and extract the tixels into a file. Then either run some kind of pattern matching software over it or do the pattern matching myself.
Is there a single, big tile pattern, that these tiles are cut out of? Can I find that pattern? What other patterns are there? Are the patterns in the women's bathroom the same? I intent to find out.
